What’s with the tree?
Good question. It would be easy to say that it was an environmentally conscious idea to implicate the idea of writing in a tree (and I think as myself as the most annoyingly environmentally conscious person I know) however the concept stemmed when I was very young.
Most children love climbing trees, yet there are very few adults still climb trees. I am an adult who still climbs trees and I can’t really help it. It improves my cardiovascular, it makes me feel like a kid, and strangely enough when I carry my notebook and a sharp pencil up the tree with me, I write without hesitation, self-judgment or filter. That’s not to say that my tree-writing is particularly good, but it is freeing. When one makes their passion their profession its easy to forget why we do the things we do in the first place. Writing in a tree makes writing that much more funner. And yes, I know “funner” is not a word.

I still climb trees, my children keep me on my toes.
